This report describes research activities of the R & D Group for Non-Proliferation Technology related to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) verification regime. The main subjects of this report are (1) an overview of the CTBT verification regime, (2) preparation of the National Data Center for radionuclide data, (3) construction and operation of the radionuclide monitoring stations at Takasaki and Okinawa and the certified rarionuclide laboratory at Tokai in Japan. We have participated in an intercomparison test internationally organized for the certified laboratories and the test results are given here. Scientific application of the CTBT-related technologies to environmental researches is also depicted.

Modeling the in-situ long-term sorption and diffusion experiment (LTDE-SD) at the Aspo Hard Rock Laboratory in Sweden; Scaling approach from laboratory to in-situ condition

Tachi, Yukio; Ito, Tsuyoshi; Gylling, B.*

no journal, ,

The in-situ long-term sorption and diffusion experiment (LTDE-SD) at the Aspo Hard Rock Laboratory in Sweden provides valuable dataset to test the scaling approach from laboratory to in-situ condition. The scaling approach developed in the in-situ Long-Term Diffusion (LTD) project at Grimsel Test Site in Switzerland was tested for the LTDE-SD results as part of the SKB Task Force on modeling of groundwater flow and transport of solutes in fractured crystalline rocks. Our modelling approach could account reasonably overall trends for sorption and diffusion of 10 radionuclides, and was then evaluated as being applicable for a wider range of radionuclides and for more complex fracture systems.

Oral presentation

Preparation method before measurement of CINDERELLA filter samples at JPL11

Yamamoto, Yoichi; Kijima, Yuichi

no journal, ,

The radionuclide laboratory in Japan, JPL11, has analyzed 20 to 30 particulate filter samples per year which are obtained at the radionuclide monitoring stations in the CTBT International Monitoring System, IMS, network. The CINDERELLA filter is one of three kinds of filters to be analyzed by the radionuclide laboratories and is used in the ARAME systems which are in operation in some radionuclide monitoring stations of the IMS network as one of automatic particulate measurement systems. The presentation introduces the handling of the CINDERELLA filter samples done as the preparation before measurement at JPL11.
